Q: Does this have anything to do with "Info Wars" by Alex Jones?
A: No, and in fact, he’s part of the problem, demonstrating the hysterical, lazy thinking and attraction to fantasy that comprise one of America’s chief weaknesses.
Q: What's up with these posters?
A: Like the public-awareness posters of the WWII era, they are meant to warn and inform a vulnerable public, in a direct and memorable way, that their actions matter to the larger common cause. In that war, civilian populations were targeted in order to weaken the country, and so citizens were urged to do their part in guarding their part of the country (say by rationing, using blackout curtains, and so forth). In this conflict, civilians can do their part by guarding their own minds and refusing to transmit bad information.
Q: Is this like cybersecurity?
A: Not quite. Cybersecurity is protection against the theft or misuse of your information. What we're concerned with is the theft or misuse of your mind, causing you to believe things that aren't true, or to fail to believe things that are. Fortunately, you can guard against this with healthy skepticism, good mental character, and a well-trained mind. The first step is awareness that there's a problem, which is the main goal of this site.
Q: Why is this suddenly so urgent?
A: The information economy has been weaponized. It is easier than ever before to get trapped in filter bubbles, and the delivery of news (which has always rewarded the sensational) has been combined with the fantastically customized nature of information in the modern era to create splintered realities. United we stand, but divided we fall, and we've been in a free fall. Foreign powers such as China and Russia are interested in making sure we are weak, and various domestic enemies don't seem to want a Republic anymore.
Q: What is it, "info war security" or "civilian info defense"?
A: Both—the foundation of info war security is civilian info defense. Since it's our individual civilian minds that are being attacked, it's our individual responsibility to guard them wisely.
